As a Priest of the Morrigan, I have been called to serve my community and stand up for basic human rights. Although this Goddess began in a culture that was very different to the world we live in today, some things remain foundational. To inform my present day activism I take guidance from organisations such as Amnesty International.
Activism is an integral part of my priesthood, but it’s not just about being on the front lines. There are many ways to make a difference, even if you can’t physically be present at protests or rallies.
One crucial aspect of activism is support work. Warriors need a place to come home to, to be fed, hugged, and cared for. Hearth and home are just as important as the battlefield. Even if you can’t be out there fighting, you can still make a difference by supporting those who are.
It’s no secret that the world is in a difficult place right now. There are so many issues that need addressing, from climate change to social injustice. As an activist, I feel called to do my part and encourage others to do the same.
Sovereignty and Activism
One of the things the Irish Goddess Morrigan is associated with is sovereignty, but in her tales this isn’t really important who is king of the land. She’s not that sort of sovereignty goddess, really. She is the Great Queen, and as such her role is to ensure the security and longevity of her people in this land.
The Morrigan doesn’t take sides or stay loyal to one tribe or another, she goes where she is needed and makes sure that the long term interests of the people are on track. To me, this means fighting against the outdated ways and teachings of patriarchal controlling orders such as the catholic cult who have retained a stranglehold on the people of Ireland for far too long. This is work I engage with every single day.
But I also understand that not everyone has the same amount of energy or resources to give. We all have our own struggles, whether it’s physical or mental health issues, trauma, or other responsibilities. It’s important to take care of ourselves and each other through these difficult times.
However, this can become a problem when people start using these valid reasons as excuses not to take action. It’s easy to stay comfortable and ignore the issues that don’t directly affect us. But this leaves those who are affected with even more work to do on top of their daily struggles.

Accountability and Activism
As allies and activists, we need to hold each other accountable and encourage one another to do better. We must recognize our privilege and use it to uplift marginalised voices. We must educate ourselves and have difficult conversations with family and friends.
Activism is an essential part of my priesthood and my service to the Morrigan. It’s not always easy, but it’s necessary if we want to create a better world for ourselves and future generations.
Whether you’re on the front lines or supporting from home, every action counts. We must take care of ourselves and each other, but we must also hold ourselves accountable and take action where we can.
Together, we can make a difference, in service to the Goddess Morrigan.
